The weather was incredible at Tatton this year. It was a really fun show and I got to host the Gardening with the RHS podcast with Gareth Richards. Perfect all round really. I was wearing a fabulous green cord jumpsuit which was SWELTERING that day. It was basically like wearing a personal sauna. Worth it for the look of course.
Show highlights
The show was really strong, lots of great gardens, It was great to see Ollie Pike come back after last year Young Designers competition and absolutely clear up with his Show Garden. He is definitely one to watch. The dedication he put into insuring his garden was as sustainable as possible (recognised in winning the First Environmental Innovation Award at Tatton) was really impressive.
Listen to the RHS Podcast
Similarly Christine Leung was a hugely popular winner in the Terrace Garden Category. She’s steadily been working her way up the medals for a few years and seeing her get her award was quite emotional.
It’s the only show I’ve done this year where I’ve actually bought some plants. Normally I forget or by the end of the show week, I’m just not able to go round the ground like a normal person and actually shop – rather than take pictures or grab a quick interview. I feel like dropping the best part of £100 on houseplants at RHS Tatton makes up for it though.

Taking a break
It felt strange to leave knowing we won’t be back until 2027. I’m looking forward to Wentworth Woodhouse (It is Yorkshire after all), but Tatton is beautiful, I’ll miss it.
It was also the last show of the season so I was relieved to get my life back for a bit before it all kicks off again with ticket sales in October. Still that gives me e few weeks, to go to the allotment, catch up on writing and re-introduce myself to the kids. Probably in that order if I’m honest.
Give the pod a listen, if on;y to hear me repeat the phrase ‘Don’t bin it, sit on it’. Yes, I said that twice.
